Privacy Policy
Effective date: 17 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Gospel Lyrics mobile app and the website at gospellyrics.org (together, the "Service") collect, use and protect your information. The Service is published by an independent developer ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
1. Information you give us
- Account details: your name and mobile number, and a password. We store your password only as a one-way encrypted hash; we cannot see it.
- Optional profile details: email address, address and PIN code, if you choose to add them, and your preferred language for songs.
- Feedback and corrections: messages you send us, and any words you select in a song together with the correction you suggest. These are linked to your account so we can follow up.
2. Information collected automatically
- Notification token: a device identifier from Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, used only to deliver notifications to your phone.
- Server logs: like most online services, our servers record technical details of requests, such as IP address, date and time, and the page or feature requested. We use these to keep the Service running and secure.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or files, and the app contains no advertising or analytics tracking.
3. Information stored only on your phone
The app keeps your sign-in session, your chosen lyrics text size and similar settings on your device. They are not sent to us and are removed when you uninstall the app.
4. Mobile number verification
If you reset a forgotten password, your mobile number is sent to Google Firebase Authentication, which texts you a one-time code to confirm the number is yours. Firebase keeps a record of the verified number.
5. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
- To show songs and content in your preferred language.
- To send notifications, if you allow them on your phone.
- To read and act on your feedback and lyrics corrections.
- To verify your identity when you reset your password.
- To keep the Service secure and working properly.
6. Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that run parts of the Service for us, and only as needed for that purpose:
- DigitalOcean hosts our servers and database.
- Google Firebase delivers notifications and verifies mobile numbers.
- YouTube provides the video player shown on some songs. When you play a video, YouTube may collect information under the Google Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we remove your account details, notification token and any Firebase verification record. Feedback you sent may be kept without being linked to you. Copies may remain in server backups for a limited time before being overwritten.
8. Security
All data travels over encrypted HTTPS connections, passwords are stored as hashes, and access to the database is limited to the app's administrators. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Your choices
- View and update your details in the app under Settings → Profile.
- Turn notifications off at any time in your phone's settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct it.
- Delete your account. See how to delete your account.
10. Children
The Service is meant for a general audience. Children under 13 should use it with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above.
12. Contact
For any questions about this policy or your information, email gospellyricsapp@gmail.com.
